The Government Degree College Multhan is situated in the interior hard areas of district Kangra, popularly known as the Chhota Bhangal. As there was no facility for higher education in the rural and far-flung areas of Chuhar valley and Chhota and Bara Bhangal areas of Mandi and Kangra district respectively, the students had to go for higher studies to Joginder Nagar, Baijnath, Padhar and Mandi. The need of an institution of higher studies was felt since long and dream of people turned in to reality on 28 June 2017 as this College was opened at the place Deot village 67 kilometres from the Tehsil headquarter Baijnath. Multhan and Barot are a small green valley with a breath-taking view whereas the weather remains pleasant throughout the year. There is a mixture of old and charming wooden housing and modern construction. Nargu wildlife sanctuary across the UHL river is the home to Goral, Himalayan Black Bear and many pleasant life. One of the most fascinating passes of Dhauladhar is Thamsar pass about 20 km from Deot. This pass approaches through lush green forests and beautiful landscapes of Chhota Bhangal and leads to a beautiful a less explored region of Bara Bhangal.

Perhaps this beauty also appealed to Colonel Betty who established water reservoirs of north India’s first hydro-electric power station at Shanan and connected this valley to Joginder Nagar via haulage trolley as there was no link road till 1975. Surrounded by the snow laden high mountains of Dhauladhar range of Himalayas and on the left bank of Uhl river, the campus of this college presents an ideal surrounding for academic pursuits. It is surrounded by thick forest, two beautiful rivers and an extreme natural beauty. Situated in an ideal pollution free environment, this institution offers degree courses in Arts and Commerce streams. Under Graduate programmes in the subjects of English, Hindi, Economics, Political Science and History have been started in the Arts stream. There are seven sanctioned posts of Assistant / Associate Professors along with requisite ministerial staff.

Though the college is in its infancy stage, it is all set to make great strides in the field of academic, cultural, sports and other co-curricular activities. Highly qualified and experienced faculty members are making their continuous and sincere efforts in shaping the future of students. This college is indeed a boon to the economically backward students of the areas of Chhota Bhangal and Chuhar Valley especially to the girl students as more than 80 percent of the students on the college roll are girls.
